Charles Gruppé says that he paints in a “controlled impressionistic style, combining clean color with a sense of detail.” He presents subjects with swift sure strokes of the brush, a technique that is confident and yet carefree. Closely observed his paintings are loose – almost abstract. However, when you step back, the brushstrokes blend and the images become real – an exciting, unrestrained way to paint. His most popular works are seascapes depicting the Carolina Coast.  He is also an acclaimed teacher in both acrylic and oil.
